My Contemporary Artwork
My Name is Derrick Grant, I specialize in fine arts and graphic design. I create intense multimedia paintings with acrylics and oil on canvas.
As an artist, I include in my artwork my background knowledge in medical anatomy, as well as my education in fine art, design and art history. I then fuse these concepts in a novel and innovative way to produce vibrant artwork. My art also borrows elements from the High Renaissance painters as well as the post-modern surrealists. Often I marry these essential concepts by merging computerized graphics and traditional painting to give birth to a revolutionary approach to visual interaction with the canvas. I invite each viewer to engage in the piece. Over the years I have developed a method that has been referred to as the “Grantique” style. This style uses a combination of digital painting followed by traditional acrylic paints on canvas. I have sold and donated many art pieces in Philadelphia, USVI, New York and Miami and in 2007 founded DKdesignfineart website to sell the painted canvases. Additionally, our company transfers the art images to clothing and it is a pleasure to bring my creations to others in the form of wearable art . I am a co-founder of Next Level World and DKDESIGNFASHION where I specialize in designing and manufacturing creative clothing using the artwork on sale here on my site.. |

Art Exhibitions and Public Events
Here is an example of one of our art events presented in Miami in 2017.
What does black identity mean to the many black voices of today? After an extensive history of struggle, subjugation, and liberation, how does a multitude of diverse communities with African heritage identify with their idea of the black ego? And most importantly, how does black identity relate to the spiritual self of true consciousness, that is within each and every one of us? With these essential questions in mind, artist Derrick Grant, Contemporary African Diaspora Art. This work was presented in 2017 in Miami during the season of Art Basel.

Colors in the Sand Art work-2019
SHOW'S CONCEPT:
The world is like a vast desert, one regards it as a “whole entity” until they look closely to discover the single grains of sand that make up a part of the whole. Each grain bursts with vibrant colors and reflections. Similarly, one first sees the forest before they recognize the tree. One first sees the river before they recognize the drop of water. One first sees the community before they recognize the many people that make it. People of various colors, faiths, identities, each contributing their part to make up the whole. People with eyes of grey, blue, green, or brown, or with hair that’s long, short, straight, or curly. People dressed in shirts, suits, dresses, veils, skirts, pants, each one decorated in bright colors of saffron, scarlet, or royal blue. People caught up in their own daily lives, each one a single ant to a energetic colony, displaying the pride of their culture through explorations of history, dance, and the celebration of life. These are the people of many colors, displaying many shades of vibrant pigment in stark contrast against the supposedly dull vision of humanity. |
Art Basel Show , Miami Florida.- 2018
SHOW'S CONCEPT:
Most of us are aware that we are Spiritual Beings having a human experience. But what is this existential spiritual being and where does it originate? Can we identify this spirit (which in the Hebrew Old Testament literally means breath, or wind) within ourselves? It is also believed that this spirt is passed along from generation to generation. Ancestries are continuously being crossed and combined with other spiritual families passing on this energy; with it all connecting back to the great un-manifested I AM. Within all of us lies a lion of a spirit that drives our strength and passions and arises at necessary times. America is constructed from the transplanted diaspora, and the people of these many migrations are reaching back to relink the broken ancestral chains, in order to rise to their former majesty. The blood of our ancestors gushes with many colors, filled with spirit, truth, and the strength to resist any foe. In the artwork of Derrick Grant the vibrant colors, sacred symbols, emotional depth and traditional patterns blend in with the current contemporary moods in art and fashion to form a link between past and present. The artist has tried to illustrate the spirit and how it drives each of us to be stronger, brighter, more alive, and sometimes even depressed. For no matter how bad it gets, again we'll rise. |
Art Basel Show: ATMAN- Lion of the Caribbean-2017
SHOW'S CONCEPT:
Our current project involves the exploration of the ego, from the artistic perspective, and how the ego relates to our sense or reality. It discusses our questions of purpose and our own places within the greater fabric of society. Each art piece represents a person who is deep in thought, contemplating the world that he or she lives in, and how it is governed by a spiritual ego, that has been created all through their lives. Yet one entity that is always constant is the creation that we call ourselves. We have all started off as conscious, spiritual beings, which are all interconnected, however, the more we are exposed to our perceived notion of reality, the more we create an image or a ghost of ourselves that we think is a necessity to survive this believed reality. We all started off as holy entities formed into spiritual beings, interconnected, and therefore should return to this enlightened state of being. The artwork showed from November 7 2017to December 30 2018, as a part of Art Basel season. Our next Art Basel Event on December 8 will be a blast. See you there!

Modern Digital Art
Thoughts on Digital Surrealism
Conceptually, surrealism is brought into existence through the eruption of subconscious electrical neural-thought and not derived from the world of physical reality. Therefore the creation of this genre of art requires a limitless environment where digital electrical impulses are allowed to interact in an infinite space. The results, projected on a 2D canvas, are only the pigmented record of these electrical impulses; following their interactions with each other. Thus, the computer mimics my neural thought process and produces a physical record that is then mechanically enhanced by me to approximate my perception of the real world.
